Rei is the lead character, a 17-year-old shogi player who lives alone without any family, school, or close companions. He's acquainted with a household that includes a young lady named Akari, two little girls named Momo and Hinata, and many cats. This manga won several awards, including the Grand Prize at the 4th Manga Taishou Award in 2011, the 35th Kodansha Manga Award in 2011, the Grand Prize at the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize in 2014, and the Grand Prize at the Japan Media Arts Festival in 2021.

Kyou Yamada and Asu have been living independently after their mother passed away and their father vanished due to a massive gambling debt. They face everyday hardships in order to make ends meet, while also trying to bring some joy into their lives.
